Punjab and Haryana

In the agricultural states of Punjab (Land of Five Rivers) And Harayana, women wear salwar kameez with a bright Chuni or dupata on top of their head. Kameez is a long shirt or top part and Salwar are loose pants or bottom part. Dupata or Chuni is a rectangular shaped embroidered cloth which they use to cover their head. Women also wear phulkari "flower work" shawls. Phulkari's is used for everyday use by women in rural areas. These phulkari's are not so densely embroidered, but "Bagh" meaning garden is a special phulkari is made by a grandmother on birth of her grandson, which would take couple of years to make. This phulkari is given to grandson at his marriage and later on kept as a family treasure. The traditional footwear of punjabi's is called jhooti, which is mostly worn by men when they wear their traditional dress Kurta Pajama. Kurta is a long shirt which reaches up to the knees and pajama is made out of the same cloth.

Rajasthan

Geographically dull looking sand and hill areas of Rajasthan is filled with color when people in rajanthan wear colorful clothes. The state of rajasthan is famous for its raga in music, taste in food,and knots in paghri or turban.Rajasthaniturban is different from sikh turban in Punjab. When sikh turban symbolizes caste less society, in rajasthan style of people's turban symbolizes which caste they belong to.Men of rajasthan wear dhoti kurta. Dhoti is long piece of cloth tied around their waste and kurta is a long shirt. Women wear choli ghagara. Choli is tight blouse and ghagara is long ankle touching skirt.Women also wear odini which long piece of coloful cloth which is tucked into choli and then comes around the head to cover it.
